Clarkson Developed His Full Potential
Fall 2005
Earning his chemical engineering degree at Clarkson "opened the door" for Robert J. Lyng ’55. "It gave me an entrance ticket to a life where I could develop my full potential," he said. "I was also well-prepared for the highly competitive business world."
To commemorate his 50th class reunion this year, Bob, a retired manufacturing manager at E.I. duPont de Nemours & Company, and his wife, Alma, have established a charitable gift annuity with Clarkson. "We have made smaller regular gifts for many years," Bob said. "This provided a way to make a larger gift to Clarkson without jeopardizing our personal security while we are living."
The Lyngs, both natives of Lowville, New York, will receive income for life from the gift annuity, as well as a charitable income-tax deduction.
Bob and Alma, a Syracuse University graduate, are impressed with President Tony Collins’ "attention to alumni’s feelings and the quality and professionalism of development personnel such as Don Dangremond."
The couple closely follows events on the Clarkson campus through Rob desJardins, the oldest of their five grandchildren. Rob, a junior, is very involved with the Pep Band and the SPEED Program and is greatly enjoying student life. He gives his grandparents "glowing" reports about the school, Bob said.
The Lyngs are not surprised. "Alma and I both feel Clarkson is a well-run institution with good values and with an environment which enables students to develop their full potential," Bob said.
