Undergraduate Programs: The Pre-Physical Therapy Concentration
Clarkson’s pre-physical therapy concentration:
- prepares you for our graduate program in physical therapy
- allows you to earn a bachelor’s degree in a major of your choice
- provides a second faculty advisor exclusively for your PT coursework
- opens your eyes to the diversity of the physical therapy profession and its role in the future of health care
The pre-physical therapy concentration is not a major; it’s a series of core coursework (biology, chemistry, physics, math, statistics and psychology) and two physical therapy seminars. In fact, you’re free to pursue any major alongside your pre-physical therapy concentration. You might, for example, study engineering and management to gain a better understanding of how physical-therapy equipment works and how the mechanical principles apply to the human body. Or you might choose to study psychology to learn how to motivate and direct patients and their families. Whatever you study, the specialized knowledge and skills you acquire as an undergraduate will broaden your career opportunities as a physical therapist.
Clarkson’s pre-physical therapy program offers you:
- an active, “hands-on” approach through Problem-Based Learning
- an understanding of what it means to be a healthcare professional
- exposure to our healthcare delivery system to help you make an informed career choice
- computer literacy and application from a healthcare perspective
- cultural awareness to serve the health and educational needs of diverse clients and communities
- exposure to the professional literature, the meaning of evidence-based practice, and an understanding of the importance of research in clinical practice
- the opportunity to build a strong portfolio of experiences for graduate work and future employment
